Smashbox Gives Good Face

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Friday, March 29, 2013,
Last year, Smashbox was nice enough to send me a few products to try. Although I wanted to break open all of them and try them right away. I still had a bunch of similar skin products in use and I wanted to preserve my new goodies until I really needed them. I've finally tried all of the products and I must admit that I was unknowingly saving the best for last.

I've been using Smashbox products for over 12 years. Their Jet Set Waterproof Eye Liner in Deep Black is ...

She...Bangs?!

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Friday, February 8, 2013,

Now that I have your attention...this entry is about HAIR, specifically, my experimentation with fringe. It all started like most good stories do, over drinks. I was out with my husband, enjoying my second Electric Lemonade, when I noticed one of the waitresses and her amazing full bangs. It was a full thick bang that slightly covered the eyebrows and even curled slightly to the right. I immediately asked my husband, "Think I could pull something like that off?" He said, "Oh yeah! But it's go...

Makeup Design for Stoneface: A New Hat

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Monday, July 30, 2012,

Earlier this year, I was very honored to put on a new hat: Makeup Designer.  I got a call from my friend, Brian, that really ignited my love for the stage. He said, "I'm producing a play called 'Stoneface: The Rise and Fall and Rise of Buster Keaton' and I need a makeup artist for the filmed portion." I nervously agreed; I hadn't done any real character makeup since college and they were for student films that never saw the light of day. Then another thing he said suddenly popped into my head...

High Definition Makeup with a Little Tarte on Top

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Friday, June 22, 2012,
I have to admit when I found out the Studio was going to be making the switch to HD, I was a little bit freaked out! I knew that it meant a couple things: 1) that my go to MAC Studio Fix Plus Foundation Powder was no longer going to work and 2) every line, wrinkle, smudge, was going to show on camera. One word came to mind: Aaaahhhhh!!!!! This prompted a search for the best in HD makeup, that would have enough coverage for both men and women. I needed products that I could build upon and laye...

Pretty In Pink with Benefit Posietint

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Tuesday, July 5, 2011,
Posietint by Benefit

Basically, this is a creamy hot pink colored tint in a nail polish bottle. It is creamier than Bene Tint and is quite easy to blend. Having said that, remember that this is a stain, so once you lay it down, you must blend it right away. I spread it on my fingers and blended it onto my cheeks in a circular motion. When I read up on this product, I found that most people were using it as a lip stain, as the bright pink color seemed to be to bright for most cheeks. On the lip...

MAC Venomous Villains Collection

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, October 7, 2010,

So if you are a Disney Freak like I am, you will LOVE this collection, The only thing that stopped me from getting it all is that I have a whole lot of makeup. What is great about this collection is that if you want a certain look using a certain palette of colors, you will achieve it by purchasing the products within each villain. And the packaging is just too cute! The villains and product types are as follows:

The Evil Queen from Snow White:  Her collection includes eyeshadows, lipsticks/li...

Josie Maran Lip Stains

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, October 7, 2010,
Josie Maran Magic Marker Lip and Cheek Stain

This lip stain is so beautifully bold and vibrant! The application of the color is amazing and the felt tip applicator is soft and non drying. I have read other reviews that claim that their applicator dried out. This is a common complaint with felt tip marker products. It absorbs like sponge on the inside, but the actual tip's fibers are so tight that if damaged or exposed to too much air, none of the product comes through. so make sure not to jam ...

The Best Eyelash Curler Ever!

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, August 26, 2010,
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

Say goodbye to pinched lids and missed uncurled lashes! This is the best eyelash curler on the market and is beloved among celebs, makeup artists and makeup lovers alike. It is ergonomically balanced and has wider arms than most curlers; this allows for the curler to align perfectly with your eye's natural shape. So it grabs more lash and curls evenly throughout. The silicone pad is dome shaped, which gives you a nice curl instead of an angled crimp. Even the most cur...

Benefit Heavy Hitters

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, August 26, 2010,
Benefit makes some pretty awesome stuff! After my not-so-positive experience with their brow product Brow-Zing, I thought I should give them some credit by reviewing some of my favorite items.

Some Kind-A Gorgeous

This product is awesome! But what is it? It is advertised as a foundation faker. WTF is that? Essentially, it is a cream to powder foundation, BUT the coverage is very light. It is designed to blend imperfections and even out the skin. It is oil-free and silky to the touch. It origina...

Summer Essentials

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, July 22, 2010,
I don't know about you, but I am honestly not a fan of the summer heat! I am big fan of glam all the time, so the summer heat tends to put a damper on my makeup needs. I don't like to tan, I'm not a big fan of the sun and I literally melt in the summer. I do wear less makeup on hot days, so I need products that will not only hold up in the heat, but also allow me the freedom to create different looks.

One woman's worst product ever, could be the answer to your eyebrow woes

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, May 13, 2010,
Brow Zings by Benefit

This product is called an eyebrow enhancer for a reason! If you do not have eyebrows or are "brow hair challenged" like myself this product is NOT for you! It is a wax and powder combo that is designed to sculpt existing hair with the gel and fill in spaces with the powder. Both the powder and gel need hair to attach to! Otherwise, after a couple of hours expect to have no brows, only smears of what once was. I have never returned a makeup product in my life. I will usual...

L'oreal Paris Studio Secrets Professional Primer

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, May 13, 2010,

I'd like to first start off by saying that I have tried a lot of primers! They are designed to smooth and even out your face before you apply your foundation. I wasn't exactly set on any one particular brand, as none of the ones I had tried really made that big of a difference to my skin's overall look, feel and texture. L'oreal's Studio Secrets Primer changed the everything for me! It does exactly what is promises. It smooths, fills in little lines, and makes the skin feel baby bottom soft! ...

Felt Tip Eyeliners

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, April 22, 2010,
Tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner

Felt tip eyeliners are my current new favorite. I bought the Tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner in Archlecchino, which is a bright dark blue. I fell in love with its shade of blue. This eyeliner comes in many beautiful colors (white, black, pink, purple different shades of blue and green) that stay true even when laid on top of shadows. It is waterproof, in that it won't run, but if your eyes water it will get lost in your creases a little bit. I do recommend carrying it on ...

The Ultimate Pin-up Lipstick

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, April 22, 2010,
Nars Lipstick in Red Lizard

This it the most beautiful pin-up color I have seen in a long while. It is semi-matte and has a creamier application than matte lipsticks. It is a full bodied red lipstick that matches all skin tones and makes the lips look luscious! It has a little bit of a sheen when first applied but goes pretty matte, once it has set. This is a must buy for all of you that love the classic hollywood glam look. I can't say too much about it, other than it's awesome!!!

Drugstore Makeup - New Cover Girl & Maybelline

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Tuesday, April 6, 2010,

Cover Girl's Smoky Shadow Blast is a great concept. It's aimed at women who don't have a lot of time to sit in front of a mirror, pull out their brushes and makeup and create a smoky look. Each stick comes with two colors, a lighter color, to be used as a base over the lid, and a darker shade, to roll over the lash line and crease. After a little bit of blending with your fingers, you get a beautiful smoky eye. And for the most part, this product achieves its overall mission. It's quick, effe...

MAC Viva Glam Gaga

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Tuesday, February 16, 2010,

I love Lady Gaga and I am a huge supporter of the of the MAC Aids fund. So I try to pick up the Viva Glam's every year, as the purchase of the Viva Glam Lipsticks support the fight against HIV/AIDS.  Viva Glam Cyndi is a light reddish coral, so it naturally would have suited my skin tone a little better. But since I am Goo-Goo for Gaga, I had to give this product a try.

The color is beautiful, it's a light blue pink. It's young, funky and vibrant, perfect for light skin tones. The blue in it ...

Drugstore Products

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, February 11, 2010,
So I have decided to review a couple of drugstore products at the request of some friends.

L’Oréal’s new True Match Roller™ Perfecting Roll On Makeup

Great idea!!! Designed to save time...but the product is a not what it promises. First off, the roller is designed to go on evenly, but it doesn't. The true match foundation isn't bad, but it feels like they had to make it even lighter to accommodate the roller. It feels very light, almost like a cream tinted moisturizer, when you roll ove...

Make-up Forever Heavy Hitters

Posted by Amanda Rodil on Thursday, January 28, 2010,

I love love love Make Up Forever!  The HD Microfinish Powder does the job and then some! This product not only sets foundation and mattifies, but it also leaves a wonderfully soft finish. I apply it last on top of my blush and eyeshadow and it does not change or mute and color. A little bit goes a long way so make sure to tap off any excess before applying. If you use too much, it feels heavy and makes the ultra fine silica feel more like MAC studio fix...Use sparingly and this product will g...
